Troop 28

Scout barn where Troop 28 meets

We Are a Boy-Led Troop. We believe in the principle that the troop belongs to the scouts. Troop 28 is led by the boys who are elected by their peers. The adults provide guidance and oversight so that the scouts will have a safe program that adheres to the Guide to Safe Scouting. Through this philosophy, the scouts learn to become independent leaders who can use the life skills gained through Scouting in all aspects of their lives.

Each scout will learn to become an effective leader by performing the duties of the leadership positions he holds as he moves through his Scouting career. The decisions regarding the activities of the troop, the structure and activities of a troop meeting, and the events in which the troop participates are all determined by the Patrol Leaders Council. Scouts actively participate in the planning of activities for troop events.

We meet every Monday night through the school year from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at our Scout Barn next to the Iron Rail Gym at 91 Grapevine Road, Wenham, MA. We have been consistently recognized as a "quality troop" by the Scout Council. The troop is comprised of patrols, with each patrol consisting of 6-8 scouts, led by patrol leaders. Troop meetings are planned and conducted by boy leaders under the coaching and guidance of the adult Scoutmaster. Troop 28 has been chartered by the First Church in Wenham since 1927. We are part of the Great Eastern District within the Spirit of Adventure Council. Our troop does activities like rock climbing, camping, shooting sports, canoeing, swimming and more! At our troop meetings we practice for our big outings by doing first aid, wilderness survival, and earning ranks. If you join our troop you can run for leadership positions and influence where we go and what we do.Our troop is open to boys who are 11 through 17 years old, have earned their Arrow of Light [Cub Scouting award], or have completed the fifth grade.
